Making Sense (Glossary)

Peak Pressure - The highest pressure reading on any sensel in the sensor pad. It is possible for more than one sensel to share the same highest reading.

Capacitive Sensing Technology
- Capacitance is an electrical property of any two conductive surfaces separated by anything nonconductive. The amount of capacitance between the conducting surfaces depends, in part, on the distance separating the two surfaces. Changing the distance will change the amount of capacitance. XSENSOR sensor pads use this phenomenon to measure pressure distribution. In an XSENSOR system, an applied pressure distribution will compress the sensor pad and change each sensel's capacitance by an amount related to the applied pressure. The system then measures the change in capacitance and converts it to a pressure reading as determined by the calibration process.
